Managing food orders with the KDS
Kitchen Display System (KDS)
The Kitchen Display System helps food vendors manage orders efficiently with station-based routing and item-level tracking.
Accessing the KDS
Navigate to /kitchen to access the KDS interface. This is typically displayed on screens in the kitchen area.
Station Configuration
Orders are routed to stations based on product assignments:
- Grill - Burgers, steaks, BBQ items
- Fry - Deep-fried items, fries, chicken
- Drinks - Beverages, smoothies, coffee
- Desserts - Ice cream, pastries, sweets
Each station sees only the items assigned to it.
Order Cards
Each order displays:
- Order number - Large, visible pickup code
- Items - List of items for this station
- Timer - How long since the order was placed
- Status - New, In Progress, or Ready
Bumping Items
As items are prepared:
- Tap the checkbox next to each completed item
- When all items for your station are done, the card turns green
- Tap "BUMP" to remove the order from your screen
The order moves to the Expo screen once all stations have completed their items.
Color Thresholds
Order cards change color based on age:
- White - Fresh order (0-3 minutes)
- Yellow - Getting old (3-7 minutes)
- Red - Urgent (7+ minutes)
Thresholds can be configured per station.
All Day View
The "All Day" tab shows aggregate counts:
- Total quantity of each item needed
- Helps with batch preparation
- "86" toggle to mark items as sold out
Recall
The last 5 bumped orders can be recalled if needed. Tap "RECALL" to see recently completed orders.
